Dr. Maisan AhmedExpert in Food Safety And Public Health

Dr. Maisan Ahmed is a distinguished expert in food safety and public health. She served at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency before joining the Qatar National Food Security Program, an initiative under the Amiri Diwan. Following her tenure with the Qatar National Food Security Program, she joined the Ministry of Public Health. Her expertise covers a wide range of areas, including surveillance, animal health, diagnosis of zoonotic diseases in food animals and their carcasses, and the investigation of foodborne zoonoses and food contamination incidents, protecting food supply chain against deliberate contamination, in addition to project management. Dr. Ahmed maintains a significant focus on legislation, policies, and standards. She is guided by these principles in all her work, including the development of guidelines, work instructions, and training programs. She is a certified trainer actively engaged in capacity building. She was a key member of the team that planned the establishment of the Food Safety Authority in Qatar. During this period, she collaborated extensively with consultant teams appointed by both the Qatar National Food Security Program and the Ministry of Public Health. She also played a vital role in establishing several departments within the Authority. She played a crucial role in aligning Qatar’s food safety law with international best practices by identifying key gaps and ensuring the provisions comply with the core principles of food safety as well as contributing to the drafting of the legislation that established the Food Safety Authority. Dr. Ahmed currently works as an expert in the Food Policy Department, playing a key role in advancing the development and implementation of food safety initiatives in Qatar. She also plays a role in establishing several departments within the newly formed Authority.
