Dr. Tahra ElObeidAssociate Professor of Food Science and Technology

Dr. Tahra ElObeid is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Qatar University. She has held key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Health Sciences, Head of the Department of Human Nutrition and Director of the Foreign Dietitian Education Program. She earned her PhD in Food Science and Technology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, Austria. With more than 20 years of academic and professional experience, Dr. ElObeid has led major initiatives in higher education, program accreditation, and curriculum innovation. She currently serves as ACEND Liaison Officer for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (USA), where she played a pivotal role in achieving multiple accreditation cycles for Qatar University’s Human Nutrition program. She was instrumental in establishing the University’s Master’s Program in Human Nutrition and its Minor in Food Safety, and has contributed to national and international program reviews in nutrition and food safety. Her research spans food safety, precision nutrition, functional foods, and sustainable food systems. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and her projects have been supported by Qatar University, the Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council, the Qatar National Research Fund, and other international agencies through wide-ranging collaborations. Dr. ElObeid has also served as an advisor and consultant to the World Food Organization, World Health Organization, UNICEF, and government ministries on issues of food security, nutrition, and food safety. She is an active member of leading professional bodies, including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (USA) and the Institute of Food Technologists (USA), and serves on several national technical and advisory committees in Qatar.
